I wanted to dedicate a page to the Second Rescue I work with - Happy Tails Rescue. Happy Tails works with both Cats and Dogs (I am on the Cat side). Here's the scoop:
Who is Happy Tails Rescue?
Happy Tails Rescue is a NO KILL, 501 (c) 3 non-profit group of volunteers and foster homes.
They have no salaried employees. They promote the importance of responsible pet ownership, adoption and care of family pets.
Everyone needs to be aware of the time and expense in owning and caring for their pets. Since adopting an animal is a long term commitment, you should take the time and think about the right pet for your family.
Their mission is to help homeless animals find forever homes, and to help new pet owners select the right pet for their home, family and lifestyle.
Where are the animals from?
Animals up for adoption are from different places - some are from personal surrender, meaning people are not able to keep them for reasons such as moving, health reasons (allergies), etc. Some are from impound facilities, meaning they are found as strays, picked up by Animal Control or turned into the impound by their people for whatever reason. People should know that rescues are there to help and impound may not be right for their pet.
What does the Adoption Fee cover?
All animals that come to the rescue are immediately taken to the vet clinic. They are given the necessary shots, vet checked, heartworm tested, feline leukemia tested, dewormed, given rabies shots, spayed or neutered if needed.
All animals that leave our rescue are spayed and neutered. We need to control the animal population. There are too many animals that die each year due to people not taking the responsible choice to spay and neuter. This is a healthy thing for your pet. It cuts down on the incidents of cancer in animals.
The fee also helpes with the everyday costs of running a rescue - such as food, collars, leashes, crates, toys for animals and advertising costs. There are many expenses involved.
What can I do to help?
Volunteers are needed at all times. Can you help with transporting animals to and from vet appointments and/or to an adoption facility? Can you do fundraising or help with website information?
Perhaps you like getting pet supplies or just making a donation to help a good cause. Why not remember Happy Tails when thinking about your year-end contributions?
What about Fostering an animal?
Fostering is very rewarding work! You help save a life - without this help one more animal might need to be euthanized.
Seeing the joy on the face of a new adoptive family is not only a day brightener, but it gives you the comfort in knowing you were able to spare one more life!
What a warm feeling to look into a little furry face and know that YOU made the difference...You were a lifesaver! What a rewarding experience!
Help an animal find a forever home and start today. Call to volunteer. WE supply all of the food, crates and approved medical expenses. YOU supply the love and care, short or long term as needed.
NOTE: All foster homes need to be approved.
Is there anything you need or do you have a Wish List?
Yes, we do! As a rescue we are always in need of everyday things like:
Collars
Leashes
Dishes
Crates (for transporting)
Bedding
Food (Cat and dog)
Toys
Gift cards to Pet Stores (PetSmart, Petco, etc.)
Gift cards for Gasoline
Gift cards to Kinkos for copy supplies
Or, just call and ask - we are always happy to talk with you about our immediate needs.
Ask about our Handouts...
We have several handouts with information on Pet Care and information on places to call if you have lost your pet. We are always willing to find information that you are looking for or might need to help you and your family live in harmony with your pets.
If we do not have the right pet for you, ask us and we might be able to suggest another rescue that could help you.
Remember - rescues are here as life savers - always be sure to ask the right questions and see records when you adopt a new Pet.
Look for us at www.tailsrescue.org. All of our adoptable animals are listed on our site. We have some of our cats up at Maple Grove PetSmart and the other cats and all dogs are in foster homes until we have room at PetSmart for more cats or you can visit dogs available (in addition to the cats) on Adoption Day at PetSmart (check our site for adoption day dates), or other adoption events around the cities.

Thank you for caring!
